mortified

mortified is " a comic excavation of teen angst artifacts (journals, poems, letters, lyrics, home movies, schoolwork) as shared by their original authors... "
a.k.a., people giving readings from their childhood diaries. on stage.
there are other small groups sprouting up everywhere doing the same thing, which i totally am all for (what a great therapy session), but mortified is by far the most organized and widely known group doing it. they have started doing a touring show thats hitting sf, la, boston, chicago and nyc. cant wait.

heres a great animation of one example- "i hate drake"

theres a few more short clips on their site as well as alot more info on the group here- www.getmortified.com

soviet military prison....vacation! yay!

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a held in the custody of Comrades Stalin & Lenin in the USSR , accused of crimes against the State? You will get the opportunity to feel what is like to be treated like a military prisoner in Soviet times. Your "visit" will last 2-3 hrs, longer if you want, during which you will get a taste of prison life under the supervision of Soviet Guards, including

>Solitary Confinement
>Stark Prison Cells
>Convict Photo & Prison Registration
>Barking Soviet Prison Guards
>Prison Uniform
>Interrogation Suite
Afterwards you will meet the guards and chat over vodka and pickled gherkins, local style, while admiring your Arrest Card....

disposable heroes of hiphoprisy- california uber alles

alot of people are familiar with spearhead, but not many know that michael frantis career goes way back before them.
originally he was involved in an experimental punk band in the eighties called the beatnigs, and then in 1990 went on to form a group called the disposable heroes of hiphoprisy, which in my opinion is some of his strongest and most intense work.

this is a live performance of his cover of the sex pistols california uber alles, and its a good example of the strength of his earlier work, which i highly recommend checking out. this song kicked my ass then, and it still does.

things i learned from my patients, ER edition

from the student doctor network forums. this has to be some of the funniest stuff i have ever, ever read.

some choice examples-

>Never, ever leave flashlights, shampoo bottles, beer bottles or any long, circular object on the floor because someday you will fall on it and it will somehow, work its way up your rectum.

>Always wait until finishing your woodwork with the skillsaw prior to using your meth.

>Latex paint, despite being thick and creamy, does not coat your stomach and provide the same relief as pepto bismol.

>If you are 13 and feeling....experimental....Don't use the dish hose from the sink as your ambassador to rectal pleasure. If you do, the spring-loaded handle thingy will open after you shove it up past the anus, making it impossible to get out.
Furthermore, it will be difficult to explain to your step-father when he discovers you how you became 'tethered' to the sink by the dish hose.

the concrete jungle

"At night projections from moving cars are shone on the buildings downtown. Each car projects a video of a wild animal. The animal’s movements are programmed to correspond to the speed of the car: as the car moves, the animal runs along it speeding up and slowing down with the car, as the car stops, the animal stops also. The framerate of the movie corresponds to the speed of the wheel rotation, picked up by a sensor."

this is the reason i started a blog. ^thats my knee!
i love showing off my x ray, i dont know why.maybe i crave pity, maybe i just like to see the scrunched up faces people make when they see it and go "ewwwwww". long story short, had a nasty bike wreck while trying to avoid getting hit by a runaway tour bus on market street, ive been laid up in bed for like 2 1/2 months, got about 6 more weeks til i can walk on it. so heed my words kids, be careful out there, and until we get socialized medicine, get some good insurance.
